About Chainle
Chainle is an unlimited word link puzzle. Read the clue words, type the one word that connects them, and watch a trail of tiles grow from every clue toward your answer. Five rounds, up to 5,000 points, and a new puzzle whenever you want one.
How to play Chainle
Each Chainle puzzle has five rounds. Rounds 1 to 3 are pair links, where one word must suit two clues (beach + desert → sand). Round 4 is a triple link with three clues (page + cover + shelf → book), and round 5 asks for the word nearest in meaning to a single clue (ocean → sea). You get one guess per round.
How Chainle scoring works
Every word in Chainle has a place on a map of meaning built from a large open collection of word associations. Your word is measured against each clue and compared with the round's top answer. Each trail grows up to 8 tiles; when every trail reaches all 8, they lock in green and you score the full 1,000 points. After each guess you also see your word's rank among every possible answer.
Tips for higher Chainle scores
Look for the meaning the clues share rather than a word that fits only one of them, because your weakest clue limits your score. Many clues have more than one sense, so try each one. Plain, everyday words usually beat rare ones.
Chainle FAQ
- Chainle is a free word association game. Each round gives you one, two or three clue words, and you type a single word that links them in meaning. Each clue then grows a trail of tiles toward your word, and the closer your word is, the further the trail reaches.
- Every round is worth up to 1,000 points, so a full Chainle puzzle is worth 5,000. Your word is compared with each clue on a map of word meanings. Each trail can reach up to 8 tiles, and your weakest clue holds the score back, so a word that suits only one clue scores very little.
- No. Any real word can score. There is a top answer for every round, and after your guess you see where your word ranked among more than 22,000 possible words. A different word that is just as close can still earn the full 1,000 points.
- As many as you like. Chainle is unlimited: there are more than 1,700 puzzles, every player gets their own random order, and the next puzzle opens as soon as you finish one. Your progress is saved in your browser.
- Chainle accepts single words made of the letters a to z. Plurals and other forms of a clue word, or words that contain a clue, are not allowed. Very rare words that are not in the game's dictionary are not accepted either.
- Yes. The original daily phrase chain is still available. Tap the Classic button at the top of the game to play it.
